Blogmas Day 3! Friends, I’m having so much with this. Maybe a little bit too much fun. If you missed yesterday’s post check it out here!
Today I just want to quickly share with you what Christmas means to me. A lot of us get blinded by the pretty lights and the hustle and bustle of shopping for presents, that we don’t take the time to reflect on all that has happened in the past year. Whether you’ve had more ups than downs, or vice versa, there is always something to be thankful for.
To me, Christmas means spending time with family. It means dancing to holiday jingles and getting excited for the Hershey’s Kiss commercial with the candies “singing” We Wish You a Merry Christmas. It means seeing old friends that I’ve maybe lost touch with in the last few months.
Christmas is more than just giving and receiving gifts. It’s being thankful for the lives of all of the people you love. I beat myself up way too hard when I’m not able to buy a gift for someone. I feel like I’m letting that person down. I have to constantly remind myself that it’s not about money or wealth or presents. It’s about letting the people who you love know that you love them.
Whether you are religious or simply love Christmas just for it being Christmas, you should always remember that this time of year is special in the many ways that you make it.
I look forward to the cool winter days and chilly nights. I look forward to the mugs of hot chocolate and fresh black coffee. I get excited to sing Christmas carols at the top of my lungs in the shower and everywhere else. I can’t wait to eat my mom’s famous ham and drink coquito with my boyfriend’s Puerto Rican family. And don’t even get me started on the ugly sweater parties!
I can already hear the laughter and feel the love that radiates from every room in every house that I visit around the holidays. It’s truly amazing to go from family to family and see how each has created their own holiday traditions, tailored just for them.
Driving down the street and seeing Christmas decorations, seeing storefronts decked out in wreaths and twinkling lights, watching children play and laugh with their siblings, all of these things fill me with such joy! Maybe it’s just me, but there’s always a little more cheer in the air when Christmas rolls around.
If 2017 wasn’t your year, don’t let that dampen your Christmas cheer. (Ayeee that rhymed lol.) But seriously, 2018 is just a few weeks away. Instead of focusing on the negative things of the past, get mentally, physically, and emotionally ready to kick ass in 2018. Enjoy the rest of December. Enjoy the time with your loved ones and all of the good food they’ll be bringing along with them.
All in all, Christmas, to me, means LOVE. For many, this is the only time of year that we see some of our loved ones and this is the one chance to remind them that no matter where life takes us, they will always be loved. Love yourself, love your family, love your life, love your career, love your pets, love your tree, just love.
That’s what Christmas means to me. I’d love to hear what it means to you and some of your holiday traditions. Let me know in the comments below! Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you tomorrow for more Blogmasssss!
