Success While Single: Making the Most of “Me” Time

Helloooooo ladies (and gentlemen if y’all are reading too, hey!) Lately I’ve been able to spend a lot of time with myself, and I mean REALLY spend time with me. Although I am alone for a big chunk of my day on the regular, I realized that I wasn’t taking the time to nurture myself. I was filling my time with games and YouTube and social media, and I wasn’t paying attention to what my body and soul needed. We all know that’s an express ticket to depression and that’s definitely not what I need to be battling with right now. So today I want to talk to you about making the most out of your “me” time.

As a person, especially a young one, time to yourself is very important. We’re still developing our likes and dislikes and discovering our needs and we need time to reflect. It can be difficult to make time between school, work, and relationships, but it is possible. Whether it’s 10 minutes or 10 hours, you need to make the most of your time alone. There are a number of things you can do to make your time more productive and we’re going to run through a few that I’ve been trying out!

1. Meditation.

One of my favorite ways to spend my time is to meditate. It may seem impossible to sit with your mind still for an extended period of time, but it is so refreshing. At first you’ll find your mind wandering, but you just have to catch yourself and quiet those thoughts. Meditation focuses on the present and what you are experiencing in that very moment without distraction. I even visit a local park some mornings to get some sun and recharge to get ready for the day. If you’re curious about meditation and don’t know how to start, try the Calm app! It’s very beginner friendly.

2. Skin Care.

Simply doing my skin care routine has been such a nice feeling lately. Clear skin will always be in! Especially right now with such high-resolution cameras. I always wash my face daily, but I’ve been very lax in having a routine with products that are actually helping my skin. So I watched a ton of YouTube videos and came up with my own routine. I follow it daily and during that time, I check in with myself. I really dig deep into what I’m feeling whether it be anxiety or anger or giddiness. I take that time to confront whatever is going on and that really has enabled me to be much calmer and relaxed because I’m not bottling things up or compartmentalizing them. This is also perfect for someone who doesn’t have much time. You have to take care of your skin anyway so you might as well squeeze as many therapeutic benefits out of it as you can.

3. Hobbies.

Doing something you love that isn’t related to work is another amazing way to make the most of your alone time. Not just sitting around, but really getting into something. For me that something is makeup. I absolutely LOVE makeup. I’m not an MUA or anything like that but I am very much so a beauty enthusiast! I enjoy trying new products, experimenting with eye looks, and largely watching tutorials on YouTube. Everything about makeup brings me such joy and I’m so at ease whenever it’s around. I suggest you find an outlet that makes you as happy as makeup makes me. Try everything until you find your thing! There’s something so fulfilling about doing the things that truly interest you and hobbies play a big role in your development as a person.

Now obviously those aren’t the only ways to go. You can do anything you want from taking a bath to reading a book to photographing manatees! We’re all different and have all kinds of interests so the possibilities are endless. These are just a few things I like to do when I’m spending time on my own and looking to reflect. While you’re out there grinding and living your best life, make sure you find time to take care of you. Listen to what your body and mind need. Don’t be afraid to keep trying new things until you find what works for you. I hope you’ve journeyed a little further into yourself and feel free to let me know your favorite way to spend “me” time!
